“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store…”

“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store…”

“Maybe Christmas,” he thought, “doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a bit more!”

I think to myself, “Finally! A weekend to relax and recover from the previous weekend that was Thanksgiving and watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas on replay.” Then in that same moment I realize Christmas is right around the corner; then comes New Year’s Eve, then the new year begins… There is no time to relax! Ok start planning. What am I going to get my family and friends for Christmas? How many people are showing up for dinner that night…? The list goes on.

It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays. We are quickly consumed with planning and preparing. Whether it is getting ready for a house full of visitors and preparing the Christmas dinner or tracking down the perfect gifts for under the tree, we get so mixed up in the chaos that we forget to take a step back and remind ourselves what it is to “celebrate” Christmas.

Today is December 3, and the Advent Season has begun. Yes, this month is a time of preparation; not only to enjoy family, food, and gifts, but mostly to prepare our hearts for the most important guest this world has ever hosted.

Recently, Pope Francis reminded us that Advent should encourage us to reflect on the final visit of our Lord when Jesus “will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.” While the end of the world is definitely something I do not want to think about during “the most wonderful time of the year,” it absolutely is something we need to be reminded of.

Remembering What is Important This Advent Season

It is completely true that often times I get caught up in the pretty colors and lights that this time of year brings and lose sight of what is really important. So, this year instead of worrying about what to add to our wish list, maybe we can challenge ourselves to go to confession, attend Mass more than we usually would, pray with a friend, forgive, and love deeper than we ever imagined we could; to truly prepare our heart and be an example to those around us of the true meaning of Christmas, the advent of Jesus.

Mother Teresa Canonization – Connecting through Blessings

Mother Teresa Canonization – Connecting through Blessings

I’m currently studying abroad in Rome and traveling just about every weekend. Yes, it’s exciting but it’s also very challenging at the same time. Too often things don’t go as planned and is often stressful.
But through the chaos, one way God has made Himself known to me was through the little My Saint My Hero Bracelets I never take off. One on my left hand. Another on my right. They are a constant reminder to be God’s and to be courageous.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting Him to use it in the ways He has had. And I want to tell you three stories of that…

Story Two – Mother Teresa Canonization

I was waiting in 97 degree heat, shoulder to shoulder to the people next to me while waiting hours for Canonization Mass to start. Next to me were two older women who were pointing at my friends and whispering. Confused, I gave them a smile. They smiled back and one asked, “Sorry I was just noticing your bracelets…” She begun to ask me questions about them and was in absolute admiration. She wrote down the My Saint My Hero website.

I told them with all the eagerness in my voice of the story of MSMH I told them about how it supports the women of Medjugorje who literally weave each bracelet with prayer.

We ended up having an entire conversation with each other learning about each other’s lives and sharing stories.

Julie Lai - Saint Teresa of Calcutta Canonization

I would have never talked to these women. But just like that. God connected women who are generations apart over a little bracelet.

Story One – My First Day in Rome

One word: insane. I spent the day running to almost-missed flights and experiencing a major earthquake. I was full of anxiety of the unknown. A new culture. A new language. I had lots of, “what the heck am I doing?!” moments.

I was at my new school’s orientation and I felt so little in midst of hundreds of strangers. As I nervously looked around the room looking at these unfamiliar faces, God had given me just what I needed.

I saw one girl wearing a MSMH bracelet. And I looked to her friend and she was wearing one too. And the brunette girl across the room. And another who just walked in. As I scanned the room, there had to be dozens of girls wearing MSMH bracelets.

Perhaps this may sound like a no big deal. But in that moment it was what calmed my anxious heart. God reminded me I wasn’t alone. He had not left me. He made me feel secretly bonded with these new sisters of mine.

Pilgrimage to Medjugorje – Tamara’s Story

Pilgrimage to Medjugorje – Tamara’s Story

Pilgrimage to Medjugorje - Tamara's Story

I arrived in Medjugorje with an open heart and left filled with renewed hope and uplifted spirit. The My Saint My Hero team were beautifully illuminated as they guided us through the many special Holy places to pray and receive the messages we were called there to receive. I can honestly say that we were guided in every little detail through the divine, with many experiences orchestrated effortlessly. It was wonderful to meet the beautiful ladies who weave our bracelets with love and prayer every day as they were also beautiful, loving souls. Today I am still walking with the love in my heart and looking at every situation differently in a good way. I am looking forward to spreading the love and the light that I experienced in Medjugorje. I really do not have enough time to express all my feelings but assure you that I am still glowing 🙂

Pilgrimage to Medjugorje - Tamara's Story Cross Mountain

MSMH Pilgrimage 2016: Our morning trek up Cross Mountain – this challenging climb is known for the graces of healing, forgiveness, and hope in something more.

Tamara from Accents for Modern Living worked hard to earn this trip, not for herself but for her friend and co-worker, Stephanie. However, God had a different plan and due to particular medical conditions Stephanie was not released to travel. Tamara decided to go on the trip with the intention of praying for her friend. As I watched Tamara climb Cross Mountain with the group, I knew it was not an easy task for her. I could feel a mantra coming from her as she climbed over each rock, “I’m doing this for Stephanie!”  During one of the breaks while our guide helped us meditate on the stations of Our Lord’s passion, I decided to take a photo of Tamara as she rested in the peace of our surroundings so that she would be able to share it with Stephanie back home.

Tamara – A witness of hope & love

The photo was a gift that astounded me. I could literally see the shower of graces that were being poured over Tamara that she was meant to take home to Stephanie. These visible signs are the little gifts that help us “hope against hope” when life tries to convince us to give up.

Special Moments on Apparition Hill

Special Moments on Apparition Hill

We began our 20-minute steep and rocky climb in the dark. We weren’t even sure if we were going the right way. Fortunately, a full moon helped lead the way!  My three amazing and loving girlfriends had joined me on the pilgrimage and were by my side on this moonlit hike. We were soon joined by a ginger cat that stayed with us until he reached the top. We believe Mother Mary sent us this special cat to help show us the path and keep us safe on our journey. I told myself it was my son Robbie hiking along with me, my angel in heaven.

Before we reached the top, we stopped at the Blue Cross. This is where the visionary Mirjana, our host, has her apparitions each month. Being there for the first time was surreal.

There were many miracles that night: My girlfriends asked to learn the rosary as we sat at the Blue Cross. I was very touched and it brought tears of joy to my eyes. I thanked Mother Mary that my sweet friends wanted to know her more and to understand the rosary.

The full moon inspired us to venture out on a nighttime hike and guided us on our way. This gorgeous moon shone on our Lady at the spot where the first apparition occurred. She looked majestic and more beautiful than anything I have ever seen. Our Lady Queen of Peace is full of grace, love and she has a gentle smile. Upon her head she has a crown of 12 stars. I was immediately filled with joy and love.

Being at the top of Apparition Hill was a “pinch me” moment!

I went up the mountain with an open and excited heart, awaiting the unexpected. I kneeled in front of Mary and prayed, said part of the rosary and gave her thanks for everything and everyone. I also prayed for my family and for everyone who had sent me on this pilgrimage with their prayers and intentions. I felt yet another miracle that night as the Blessed Mother spoke to my heart. She said that being thankful, thinking of others, sharing my love, and feeling her love and her Son’s love is what makes God happy. The sense of peace and love that came over me was indeed miraculous.

The Journey Begins

The Journey Begins

My travel day to Medjugorje has arrived and I’m very excited to see what our Blessed Mother has in store for me. Before going to the airport, I wanted to read the apparition the visionary Mirjana received from Our Lady Queen of Peace. Mother Mary spoke to Mirjana on October 2nd, and speaks to her on the 2nd of each month. We are staying at Mirjana’s pension and I will have the privilege of meeting her, so I was very interested in what she heard.

Mirjana's Apparition

In the video of this month’s apparition, Mirjana is surrounded by hundreds of faithful people singing songs and then I heard, “Silence” in Spanish. Mirjana is looking up, holding a rosary, listening quietly and intently. I can hear cameras clicking and dogs barking in the background. Everyone is either watching her or also looking up. A priest is standing next to her. After her apparition, with tears in her eyes, she was held by several people. The apparition must had been very powerful for her to look like she is going to faint. The priest starts to pray and while she is escorted away, interpreters share her apparition. After listening to her apparition, I felt a bigger sense of joy and peace. I know this journey will be a life changing experience.

“Dear children, the Holy Spirit, according to the Heavenly Father, made me the mother — the mother of Jesus — and by this alone, also your mother. That is why I am coming to hear you, that I may open my motherly arms to you; to give you my heart and to call you to remain with me, because from the top of the Cross my Son entrusted you to me. Unfortunately, many of my children have not come to know the love of my Son; many of them do not want to come to know Him. Oh, my children, how much bad is done by those who must see or interpret in order to come to believe. That is why, you, my children, my apostles, in the silence of your heart, listen to the voice of my Son, so that your heart may be His home, that it may not be dark and sad, but that it may be illuminated with the light of my Son. Seek hope with faith, because faith is the life of the soul. Anew I am calling you: pray, pray to live faith in humility, in spiritual peace, and illuminated by the light. My children, do not strive to comprehend everything immediately, because I also did not comprehend everything immediately; but I loved, and I believed in the divine words which my Son spoke — He who was the first light and the beginning of redemption. Apostles of my love — you who pray, sacrifice yourselves, love and do not judge — you go and spread the truth, the words of my Son, the Gospel, because you are the living Gospel; you are the rays of the light of my Son. My Son and I will be with you to encourage you and to test you. My children, always implore the blessing of those, and only of those whose hands have been blessed by my Son, of your shepherds. Thank you.”

My Journey to Medjugorje

My Journey to Medjugorje

Pat - My Journey to Medjugorje-two

To visit the village of Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina was on my Bucket List until the beautiful and God-loving owners of My Saint My Hero invited me to go with them this October…WOW!!! I felt ecstatic and couldn’t believe I was being blessed with the opportunity to be part of a pilgrimage trip to Medjugorje. The village has been called “heaven on earth.” However, at first I felt hesitant to say yes as I am still devastated with the loss of my precious son, Robbie (only 21,) in March of this year. I am not mad at God and I have a lot faith, but I am broken hearted. I miss his hugs, his calls and hearing “I love you mommy.” I feel like I am living in a fog. Also, a lot of “What ifs” entered my head: What if my husband does not want to be alone and am I being selfish to leave him; What if he forgets to feed the dog; What if my college son needs me, etc. The devil was trying to talk me out of going, but with much prayer to our Blessed Mother and to Her precious son Jesus, asking God for discernment and with my husband and son’s blessing, I said, “YES.” My love for our Blessed Mother is immense and I know from the bottom of my heart She is with me every day and every where. Also, I believe that in Medjugorje, Her presence and the Glory of God will be felt in an unexplainable way. The owners of My Saint My Hero already knew in their heart, I needed to experience this journey…bless them! In my heart and soul I feel the Blessed Mother is calling me there!

robbie-pat

While in Medjugorje we will have the chance to meet some of the visionaries and hear their messages from our Blessed Mother, called Our Lady Queen of Peace in Medjugorje. This is beyond real to me and truly a miracle…Wow! Moreover, we will be staying in the pension owned by the visionary Mirjana and her husband…another WOW!! Eight visionaries have been receiving messages (apparitions) from our Lady since 1981. Our Lady Queen of Peace gave each visionary a “prayer mission” and Mirjana’s prayer mission is to pray for all unbelievers. Our Lady still gives them messages to share with the world. She tells us, “I have come to tell the world that God exists. He is the fullness of life, and to enjoy his fullness and peace, you must return to God.” Another message that I love is, “Dear children, the Holy Spirit, according to the Heavenly Father, made me the mother of Jesus-and by this alone, also your mother. That is why I am coming to hear you, that I may open my Motherly arms to you: to give you my heart and to call you to remain with me, because from the top of the cross my son entrusted you to me.” WOW! My heart beats with joy knowing Mother Mary and God loves me and that He is waiting for me in heaven. My heart beats even faster with joy knowing our Lady has her arms wrapped around my son and that in God’s timing I will be reunited with my precious son in heaven. It is a peace of mind for a parent!

Pat - My Journey to Medjugorje

I am excited to meet and have lunch with the faithful and sweet women who weave our beautiful My Saint My Hero Blessing Bracelets. The women of Medjugorje share their prayers and blessings through their weaving. The owners of My Saint My Hero always remind us, “May you feel the love and prayers every time you wear one of their pieces.” I have worn the Soar Blessing Bracelet (woven in Medjugorje) every day since my son went to be with the Lord. It has a silver medal with a wing and is a remembrance bracelet…very beautiful. Every time I look at my Soar bracelet I think of my son and the comforting words written on the card that comes with the bracelet, “May this wing held firm by a woven cord remind you of God’s loving Angels, protecting and guiding you to your true and lasting home in heaven for all eternity. May the hope of reunion be our comfort, for the Lord is faithful: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart”. Again all I can say is…WOW!! God is good.

I am grateful to have been invited on this Pilgrimage trip and excited to see if and how this journey will change me. I am hoping to come home transformed, renewed and restored by the many blessings I hope to receive. I believe my sweet angel in heaven will be along side of me and praying with me!

Please keep me and all pilgrims in your daily prayers. We are leaving this Friday, October 14, 2016.

Celebrating Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

Celebrating Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

Lizzy St. Thérèse of Lisieux Blog

Saint Thérèse reminds me to seek holiness in the smallest and most mundane things in life. To find any opportunity to share God’s love and mercy. Her story helped me realize that, yeah, I won’t be perfect on my path towards Christ but we have a loving and merciful Father who is always there to welcome us back with open arms.

I chose her as my patron saint because when looking at other saints I would get so intimidated or discouraged. I felt like I could never do the things they did, but Saint Thérèse made her ordinary life into something extraordinary. It was so humbling to hear her story and learn about her love. I chose her because she showed me that with great love even the smallest of deeds can change the world.

Breathe & Let Go

Breathe & Let Go

We love when you share your My Saint My Hero stories with us in person, though social media and on your blogs! Thank you to new blogger Beeing Jess for sharing her story on her blog and allowing us to share it on ours!

I haven’t written in a while and it feels amazing to be back at it! This past month was challenging and it got the best of me. Life got a little hectic and I lost myself. Luckily, at a time when I was feeling my lowest my family decided to go on vacation.

We took a road trip to Monterey, CA and it was such a breath of fresh air. We drove through Big Sur and it was absolutely amazing. It was very over cast and all I could see was the beautiful clouds taking over the sky. I had such a feeling of inner peace as we drove through the clouds. It was quite the experience. This break from my reality was just what I needed to bring myself back to a happy place.

Monterey-Beeing-Jess
On the trip I came across this Breathe Bracelet. The purpose of it is to bring yourself back to a calm state of mind when life gets the best of you. It helps get rid of the negative energy that we sometimes let consume our lives. For me, it helps when my anxiety is at an all time high. Sometimes life seems suffocating and it feels like our souls can’t get enough air. This bracelet is a small reminder to breathe when you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. When you breathe and let go of the negative you open up your soul for the positive in life.

Beeing-Jess-Breathe-Blessing-Bracelet

Take a trip, go on a hike, take a walk on the beach; do something that gives you a break from your reality! The simplest things in life make all the difference. Sometimes you just need a break in beautiful place to figure everything out.

love, Jess
